Graveyard Glitter

As someone who rarely works with green, white, and yellow, these Pokémon were a bit of a challenge. Still, I had already committed myself to this, so I had to do it. I ordered these beads from the Michaels website, and they got caught in a mail clog from Christmas. Every day that passed made my anxiety more convinced that my pretty beads had been stolen, and my dad told me to leave a complaint at Michaels. But they showed up on the 27th, when the estimated arrival date was the 20th. Even late, I got to play with them, so Michaels gets no complaints yet. Caterpie: Both green beads were in my delayed-delivery Michaels "haul," which I should have put on YouTube to get more followers. The red beads at the top were leftovers from the Charmeleon bracelet. Metapod: All beads in this bracelet came from the late Michaels package, but the clasps and the wire were from Hobby Lobby. Finishing the starter series, I'd like to show off the Squirtle set. Squirtle was my first starter when I first played the original Blue, so I put even more thought into these than I do on my usual projects. The best thing about these was that my dad, who does chainmail and wanted to put beads in chain bracelets at one point, decided to use colored rings instead and gave me a bunch of beads in the exact colors I needed to make these. While I did have to spend some money, these projects were not as expensive as they could have been. Squirtle: These were made only with things I bought myself. Still, they're Squirtle-y enough. The big beads are a much lighter brown, but as I've mentioned, I have a bad flash and my house gets shadowy. Wartortle: This bracelet was mostly made with the beads my dad gave me. The big brown bead is in the center and a lot of little brown and blue ones are in there, but the rest of it came from him. Blastoise: To fini...

The second complete set of Pokémon-inspired jewelry, this time on the very first Fire-type anyone really recognizes: Charizard. Ok, fine, Charizard is the last one shown here. Still, most people recognize Charmander as well, so I decided it would be for the best. I think my camera's flash needs a new light bulb, because these pictures are very dull. Still, you can see most of the cool jewelry here. Charmander: The bottom beads were from the clearance aisle, the center beads were ones I had for years, and the beads on top were from the regular bead section. Charmeleon: The center bead was from the same strand as the Bulbasaur earrings, and the other red beads were from the clearance aisle, too. Charizard: Out of my entire 6-piece collection, this was the most expensive necklace. The little points are quartz, and a lighter orange than the shadows of my house could show. I did it. My first ever complete jewelry set. The first Pokémon family in the official list - the Grass-type starter Pokémon that started it all, Bulbasaur. It's one of those Pokémon that even my mother recognizes. Unfortunately, my camera's flash isn't working as well as it could. If it was, you would be able to see the pretty green I chose for my beads. I've decided to keep the set, anyway. Bulbasaur: The earrings were made with beads I got on clearance at Hobby Lobby. Ivysaur: I used the same strands of beads for the bracelet, and this one does have an error. I used two pink beads in a row when the pattern said no, but I did decide to keep these. UPDATE: I changed the chain closure to a flower toggle clasp, in keeping with the Ivysaur theme. Venusaur: I used beads from the other two sets for the necklace, and I didn't get those from the clearance aisle. I did get the big pink beads from another clearance strand, and I made the charm ...

My last big project idea was to use all of my beads. When I was forced to accept that I hoard beading supplies like a dragon, I went back to doing whatever I wanted with whatever I had. Then I got my next big idea. On Etsy, I saw a bunch of small My Little Pony toys glued to ring bases. I thought it would be a much better idea if they had taken the pony and just used the colors, then sold the result. Then I asked myself why I didn't do that. Since I prefer video games to TV, I wasn't going to do My Little Pony. Instead, I decided I was going to make jewelry inspired by the original 151 Pokémon, and see if it went beyond that. My brother says I won't make it, but I'm going to try anyway. If any readers want to try, I'll give a full explanation. Hi, I'm Nora, and I have a creativity addiction. I've been running the Baking in Black cooking blog for years, but I haven't been doing much for it lately. That's why I started a blog for any other kind of creativity.
